Overview
Farell Editors is an independent Catalan publishing house based in Sant Vicenç de Castellet, in the Bages comarca of Catalonia, Spain. It was founded in 1998 by Jordi Suades and Begonya Molins and has since built a catalogue focused on nature, discovery of the territory, traditional Catalan cooking, popular culture, heritage and history. The name "Farell" comes from a farmhouse (masia) located in Pont de Vilomara, also in Bages, a raised spot on a hill from which a variety of landscapes can be observed. The publisher describes itself as "artisans of publishing" (artesans de l'edició), because it follows the whole production process very closely, from the choice of subject through to the design and layout of the books. By its fifteenth anniversary it had brought more than 120 publications by 110 authors to market on a diverse range of themes. This meticulous approach has not prevented a high output: for Sant Jordi in 2015, for example, it released eight or nine new titles. Farell Editors organises its output into themed collections. These include Llibres de Muntanya (excursions and discovery of the territory), Natura Essencial (field guides for knowing and identifying species), Rebost i Cuina (traditional cooking of the country), Món pagès (the world of the rural countryside and tradition), Cultura Popular (deeply rooted popular tradition), Cultura Popular – Llegendes (collections of legends from comarques and characters), Contes Populars (collections of folk tales), Patrimoni català (Catalan heritage and styles), Nostra Història (little-known episodes of Catalan history), Bones Herbes (common wild plants), Guies de Natura (observing nature in depth) and La Talaia (synthesis books on traditional Christian culture). Recent highlights include the new Natura Essencial and Guies de natura collections, intended to contribute to the discovery of the natural environment, whether fauna or vegetation, as well as a book dedicated to the species used in cooking. The publisher is a member of the Associació d'Editors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Publishers in Catalan Language). Its website offers free shipping from €21 (€0.50 up to €20) and features new editorial releases such as Cadaqués inèdit 1890-1960, Sabors. Camins de natura and Patrimoni romànic. The company maintains an active presence on Facebook and Instagram, where it announces events and presentations.
History
Farell Editors was created in 1998 in Sant Vicenç de Castellet, in the Bages comarca of Catalonia, founded by Jordi Suades and Begonya Molins. The name was taken from a farmhouse called Farell situated in Pont de Vilomara, also in Bages, a raised place on a hill from which a variety of landscapes can be observed. From the outset the publisher specialised in themes of nature, discovery of the territory, traditional cooking of the country, popular culture, heritage and history. By the time it celebrated its fifteenth anniversary, it had put more than 120 publications on the market by 110 authors, covering a diverse range of subjects. At that point the editors described themselves as "artesans de l'edició" (artisans of publishing), because they follow the whole production process very closely, from the choice of theme through to the design and layout of the books. This meticulous work has not prevented a high output: for Sant Jordi in 2015, for example, the house brought out eight or nine new titles. Among its more recent developments, the publisher highlighted the new Natura Essencial and Guies de natura collections, created with the aim of contributing to the discovery of the natural environment, whether fauna or vegetation, as well as a book dedicated to the species used in cooking. The house organises its catalogue into a series of named collections: Llibres de Muntanya (excursions and discovery of the territory), Natura Essencial (field guides for knowing and identifying species), Rebost i Cuina (traditional cooking of the country), Món pagès (themes relating to what the rural world has represented from the point of view of tradition), Cultura Popular (themes of popular tradition rooted in the country's culture), Cultura Popular – Llegendes (a collection of legends from comarques, characters and so on), Contes Populars (collections of tales from popular tradition), Patrimoni català (on the different styles and heritages of the country), Nostra Història (little-known episodes in the history of Catalonia), Bones Herbes (for knowing the most common wild plants), Guies de Natura (for observing nature in depth) and La Talaia (synthesis books on traditional Christian culture). Farell Editors is a member of the Associació d'Editors en Llengua Catalana. Its website presents new editorial releases and offers free shipping from €21 (€0.50 up to €20). The publisher directs readers to its Facebook and Instagram accounts for information on all its events and presentations.
