Overview
The Farge-Vegesacker Eisenbahn GmbH (FVE) is a German railway company based in Bremen. It was founded as a joint-stock company and opened its 10.44 km standard-gauge, mostly single-track railway line between Bremen-Farge and Bremen-Vegesack on 31 December 1888. The line was initially operated by the Prussian State Railways; from 1 October 1927, after the majority of shares had passed to AG für Verkehrswesen (AGV), operations were taken over by its subsidiary Allgemeine Deutsche Eisenbahn-Betriebs-GmbH (ADEG), followed from 1945 by Deutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft. The company was converted into a GmbH in 1953 and was acquired by the Connex group in 1998 (renamed Veolia Transport in 2005). In December 2009, Veolia sold its rail freight and railway infrastructure division, including FVE, to SNCF, which renamed the parent company Captrain Deutschland. On 1 November 2024, FVE was taken over by RDC Deutschland, as Captrain focused on logistics activities and withdrew from infrastructure operations. FVE remains the owner of the Bremen-Farge–Bremen-Vegesack railway line.
History
The Farge-Vegesacker Eisenbahn GmbH (FVE) was founded as a joint-stock company and opened its 10.44 km standard-gauge, mostly single-track railway line between Bremen-Farge and Bremen-Vegesack on 31 December 1888. At that time, only 0.11 km of the line lay within the city of Bremen, at the Grohn-Vegesack station; the rest, including the Blumenthal station (company headquarters until 1928) and the stations Aumund, Rönnebeck and Farge-Ost (connection to the Niederweserbahn), ran through the Prussian Province of Hanover, which was incorporated into the city of Bremen only in 1939. Operations were initially conducted by the Prussian State Railways. On 1 October 1927, after the majority of shares had passed to AG für Verkehrswesen (AGV), operations were taken over by its subsidiary Allgemeine Deutsche Eisenbahn-Betriebs-GmbH (ADEG), followed from 1945 by Deutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft. The company was converted into a GmbH in 1953. In 1998, it was acquired by the Connex group, which was renamed Veolia Transport in 2005. In 1988, an exhibition was held at the Heimatmuseum Schloss Schönebeck to mark the 100th anniversary of the line's opening.
