Overview
Feletti is an Italian chocolate and confectionery brand with roots in the Piedmontese chocolate tradition. According to its official website, the brand dates back to 1882 and describes itself as uniting the craftsmanship of the past with the quality and taste of today. The company was originally founded in Turin as a workshop by Carlo Birocchetto at the end of the 19th century. In 1916 it was taken over by Giuseppe Feletti, who gave the brand his name. In 1929 he chose to focus on ice cream and sold the company to Candido Brosio. A factory was opened in Pont-Saint-Martin in the Aosta Valley in 1968. In 2004 the company was acquired by Sorini, another historic chocolate firm based in Castelleone and founded in 1915 by pharmacist Fausto Sorini. In 2014 Feletti and Sorini merged to form H.D.I. (Holding Dolciaria Italiana). The following year the new group entered a concordato procedure, which led to the closure of the Aosta Valley plant and the concentration of all industrial activities in Castelleone. In 2016 Europa Investimenti entered the company to create the "Cose Belle d'Italia" hub, and later sold a majority stake to the US private equity fund Avenue Capital, with the Lameri family retaining 49%. Avenue Capital stepped back in 2020 after relaunching the group. Today Feletti operates as a brand within H.D.I. S.p.A., offering chocolate creations, pralines and gift packaging, including lines such as the Fantastico Bistrò and Les Petits.
History
Feletti's history begins in Turin at the end of the 19th century, when Carlo Birocchetto founded what was then a workshop. The official website states that the brand dates back to 1882 and is rooted in the Piedmontese chocolate tradition. In 1916 the business was taken over by Giuseppe Feletti, who gave the brand his name. In 1929 Giuseppe Feletti decided to dedicate himself to ice cream and sold the company to Candido Brosio. In 1968 a factory was inaugurated in Pont-Saint-Martin in the Aosta Valley. In 2004 the company was acquired by Sorini, another historic chocolate firm based in Castelleone and founded in 1915 by pharmacist Fausto Sorini, to whom the "Rabarbaro" candy is attributed. Sorini had become the property of the Cremonese Lameri family and industrialist Carlo Alquati, who later sold his stake back to the Lameri family. In 2014 Feletti and Sorini merged to create H.D.I., Holding Dolciaria Italiana. A year later the new group resorted to a concordato procedure, which led to a rationalization of production, the closure of the Aosta Valley plant and the concentration of all industrial activities in Castelleone. In 2016 Europa Investimenti, specialized in intervening in corporate crises, entered the company to form the "Cose Belle d'Italia" hub. Europa Investimenti in turn sold the majority of the capital to the US private equity fund Avenue Capital, with the Lameri family retaining 49%. Avenue Capital's commitment was to invest up to 150 million euros in Italy. After relaunching the group, four years later, in 2020, Avenue Capital decided to step aside. Today Feletti operates as a brand within H.D.I. S.p.A., continuing to produce chocolate and confectionery in Castelleone.
