History
Ferrara Musica was founded in 1989 through the will of the Comune di Ferrara and maestro Claudio Abbado, and quickly became one of Italy's most important concert seasons. Its distinctive feature has been giving stable residency to an international orchestra: the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from 1989 to 1997, then the Mahler Chamber Orchestra from 1998. Between 2018 and 2022 the European Union Youth Orchestra was the resident orchestra. From September 2022 the residency was assigned to the Orchestra Mozart for a three-year project dedicated to performing Beethoven's complete symphonies with maestro Daniele Gatti. The association organizes an annual concert season from September to May with around 20 events, presenting major orchestras, soloists and conductors, with significant space for young talents, especially in chamber music, and attention to accessibility and youth involvement.
