Filmgalerie 451

Filmgalerie 451 is a Berlin film production, cinema distribution and DVD label. According to its own description, it has been a space for film art, off-films and discoveries for more than 30 years, with a mission to discover and make available good, rare and special films. A stated strength of its program is the combination of production and distribution and the networks that have grown from it. Its current cinema and news listings include films such as Cornelius Schwalm's "BERND – Operation Germanenkind", Cynthia Beatt's "HEART OF LIGHT - eleven songs for Fiji", Sandra Prechtel's "EINAR SCHLEEF – Ich habe kein Deutschland gefunden", Achille Ronaimou's "DIYA - BLUTGELD" and Claire Denis' "THE FENCE".

Filmgalerie 451 describes itself as having been a space for film art, off-films and discoveries for more than 30 years. Its stated mission is to discover and make available good, rare and special films, where possible presenting the complete works of a director, but equally individual film pearls. A stated strength of its program is the combination of production and distribution and the networks that have grown from it. It recounts that when it began, the task was to find and select good films on videocassette because normal video stores mainly offered straight-to-video goods; today, it says, the task is to protect and assert the standing of film art and cinema against series and television dramaturgy. It cites Martin Scorsese's February 2021 Harper's Magazine statement that the art of cinema is being systematically devalued, sidelined, demeaned and reduced to its lowest common denominator, "Content", and states that it resists this development with Scorsese.
