Flavorchem specializes in the creation and manufacturing of flavor, fragrance, and ingredient solutions. Established in 1971 and privately held, the company partners with brands recognized throughout the world. Founded by brothers Salvatore and Phillip Sprovieri, it grew from a two-person team mixing syrups in a family basement into a global flavor and fragrance organization with over 400 employees, manufacturing over 5,000 flavors, fragrances, and private-label food products annually. Its global headquarters are in Downers Grove, IL, and it operates two business divisions and four global campuses.

Flavorchem was founded in 1971 by brothers Salvatore and Phillip Sprovieri in Bellwood, IL, with a focus on flavored soda syrups for local establishments. In 1974 the company gained expertise in bakery flavor formulation and entered the bakery industry with the acquisition of Pav Labs. In 1978, by acquiring Gustafson Labs, portion packaging and expertise in pure vanilla extract were added. Operations moved from Bellwood to Downers Grove, IL in 1982, where the global headquarters currently reside. In 1983 the acquisition of Orchid Laboratories (now Orchidia Fragrances) broadened operations to fragrance development and manufacturing. The 1992 Fluorostat acquisition added citrus oil processing, and the 1993 acquisition of Atmospherix expanded Orchidia Fragrances into the air care industry. Flavorchem West opened in San Clemente, CA in 1996, improving distribution and manufacturing capacity and adding distillation and spray drying. In 2003 the acquisition of Global Aromatics expanded fragrance capabilities. The company describes itself as a family-owned enterprise that manufactures over 5,000 flavors, fragrances, and private-label food products annually, and has grown from a modest two-person team to a global flavor and fragrance organization with over 400 employees.
