Espérance banlieues describes itself as running schools in difficult territories so that every child, whoever they are and wherever they come from, can learn and reveal themselves. It states that it acts daily to give young people in disadvantaged neighbourhoods positive prospects, so that educational and cultural inequalities are not inevitable. In its schools, it says everyone knows each other, and educational teams take time to observe pupils, discuss their progress and adjust when difficulties appear, in liaison with parents. The network states that it currently relies on 90% private support.
