Overview

The Fondation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent opened its doors within the historic building at 5 avenue Marceau, the former site of the Yves Saint Laurent couture house, after major renovation work. Recognized as being of public utility, it has three main missions: conserving haute couture and ready-to-wear garments and accessories, preparatory sketches, a documentary collection, and various drawings and objects documenting Yves Saint Laurent's creation; organizing fashion, painting, photography, decorative arts, contemporary art, or off-site Yves Saint Laurent exhibitions in France and abroad from 2004 to 2016; and supporting cultural institutions and projects. In 2017, with the opening of the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris, the foundation took a new direction, with its public spaces doubled in size and now solely devoted to presenting Yves Saint Laurent's work.

History

In 1974, the Yves Saint Laurent couture house, located since its creation in 1961 at 30 bis rue Spontini, moved into a Second Empire mansion at 5 avenue Marceau. For nearly thirty years, Yves Saint Laurent continued there the work begun since the start of his career. On 7 January 2002, Yves Saint Laurent announced at a press conference that he was ending his career and closing the haute couture house. Two years later, after major renovation work, the Fondation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent opened its doors within the historic building at 5 avenue Marceau. Recognized as being of public utility, the foundation has three main missions: conserving haute couture and ready-to-wear garments and accessories, preparatory sketches for collections, a documentary collection, and various drawings and objects that document Yves Saint Laurent's creation; organizing fashion, painting, photography, decorative arts, or contemporary art exhibitions in its spaces from 2004 to 2016, or off-site Yves Saint Laurent exhibitions in France and abroad; and supporting cultural institutions and projects. In 2017, with the opening of the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris, the Fondation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent took a new direction, as its public spaces, whose surface area was doubled, are now solely devoted to presenting Yves Saint Laurent's work.
