History

Fondazione Golinelli was founded in 1988 on the initiative of entrepreneur, researcher and philanthropist Marino Golinelli, initially as Fondazione Marino Golinelli. In 1999 it financed the 'Marino Golinelli' Angiology Operating Unit at the Policlinico Sant'Orsola-Malpighi in Bologna to support scientific research and raise public awareness of thrombophilic diseases and their prevention and treatment. In 2000 the 'Life Learning Center' was created, described as the first innovative Italian experience of a permanent training and informal science education centre on life sciences serving schools, inspired by the Dolan DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor (USA) created by Nobel laureate J. Watson. The foundation states that it has since built an integrated ecosystem for culture and development, unique in Italy, and is today a philanthropic holding that manages purpose-driven companies, guides cultural centres, develops technological research platforms, coordinates the Scuola delle Idee Marino Golinelli, and participates in investment companies, consortia, innovation centres and other cultural organisations. Its activities are housed in the spaces of Opificio Golinelli, the Centro Arti e Scienze Golinelli and G-Factor, and it recently entered the shareholder structure of Almacube.
