History

Fractal Records was created in September 1994 as a French independent label. It initially launched a mail-order sales catalogue called "Sinusoïde" (1994–1996) before beginning its production work in 1997. The label's first release was Mainliner's "Psychedelic Polyhedron" on vinyl LP (Fractal 001) in 1997. Over the following years, Fractal Records built a diverse catalogue spanning rock, jazz, psychedelic, modern, avant-garde, free, punk and experimental music, with a notable focus on Japanese artists. In 2004, the label spawned a subdivision called Sparkling Spare Wheel, which released titles such as Magic Aum Gigi's "MMMM (My Metal Machine Music)" (SSW-810) and Michel Bulteau & Elliott Murphy's "Hero Poet" (SSW-811). The label's official website has been online since 2000. Fractal Records has continued to release albums through the 2010s, including works by Armand Frigico, Heratius Corporation, Sonorhc, and Le Bal Des Ardents. The label remains active as an independent entity.
