Overview
Framas Kunststofftechnik GmbH is a German industrial company headquartered in Pirmasens, the historic centre of the German shoe industry. The company traces its origins to the workshop of Franz Martz, a master last-maker whose reputation earned him the honorary title 'Dr. Lasts' among Pirmasens shoe manufacturers. In 1932 a young Adi Dassler came to Pirmasens to learn the craft from Martz before going on to found adidas. In 1948 Martz and his sons founded Franz Martz & Söhne Schuhleistenmanufaktur, which quickly became the leading last-maker of the shoe capital and supplied the world's top sporting shoe manufacturers. The family business was later renamed Framas and evolved from a traditional last-maker into a global developer and manufacturer of high-performance technical moulded components and manufacturing solutions for the footwear industry. Today Framas Group describes itself as a global manufacturer of performance plastic components for the footwear industry and an all-in-one technical development partner for manufacturing solutions. Its service chain covers research, concept, 2D to 3D, 3D printing and prototyping; development, mould design, simulation and mould making; and sampling, testing and production. Product groups include shoe lasts, outsoles, midsoles, heel counters and injection or casting moulds. The group operates 13 locations worldwide, with subsidiaries and operations in Vietnam, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, mainland China and the United States. It employs roughly 3,200 people globally. In 2021 the group generated revenue of €103.9 million and a consolidated result after tax of −€14.8 million. In 2022 it processed 9,152 tonnes of plastic, of which 2,522 tonnes were recycled and 544 tonnes bio-based. Managing directors are Martin Jachmann, Patrick Jann and Andreas Wolf. Framas remains a privately held company and is not listed on a stock exchange.
History
The history of Framas begins with Franz Martz, a last-maker in Pirmasens, the centre of the German shoe industry. Martz earned such a reputation for his craftsmanship that local shoe manufacturers awarded him the honorary title 'Dr. Lasts'.
