Overview
FreakOut Holdings, inc. (株式会社フリークアウト・ホールディングス) is a Japanese holding company whose stated business is the formulation and management of group management strategy through the holding of group company shares. Its group philosophy is "Give People Work That Requires A Person." The company traces its origin to October 2010, when Yuzuru Honda founded FreakOut Inc. to bring RTB (Real-Time Bidding) advertising trading to Japan; the DSP "FreakOut" was released in January 2011. The holding company structure was adopted in January 2017, when Honda became Representative Director and Global CEO of FreakOut Holdings. Its registered head office is in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo.
History
FreakOut began in October 2010, when Yuzuru Honda — an IT engineer with experience founding and M&A activity in the ad-technology field — founded FreakOut Inc. to launch RTB (Real-Time Bidding), an advertising innovation that had emerged in the United States, in Japan. The company name was chosen to convey the meaning "to freak out." Honda initially worked alone from a home office in Chiba, developing the buy-side DSP while calling on sell-side SSP operators to launch their businesses. In January 2011 FreakOut released the DSP "FreakOut," becoming Japan's first DSP vendor, and in February 2011 opened a head office in Roppongi, Tokyo, followed by a move to Omotesando in November 2011. A U.S. corporation was established in April 2012 with an office on Sixth Avenue in Manhattan near Times Square, and a board of directors was installed in June 2012 with Yusuke Sato and Kotaro Yokoyama appointed as directors. In June 2013 Intimate Merger Inc. was established to begin a DMP business, and in October 2013 a Singapore corporation was set up as an Asia base. In December 2013 the company ranked first in "Job Creation 2013," and M.T.Burn Inc. was established for a smartphone native ad network business. In January 2017 Yuzuru Honda became Representative Director and Global CEO of FreakOut Holdings, and in February 2018 he became Representative Director, President and Global CEO.
