Overview

Freiberger Eisenbahn (FEG) is a railway company that operates passenger services on the Freiberg–Holzhau line. The line was reopened in November 2000 by Freiberger Eisenbahn after renovation. The company employs 16 staff as of December 2020.

History

The railway line was opened in sections between 1873 and 1884/85. The first section Nossen–Freiberg opened in 1873, Freiberg–Mulda in 1875, and by 1885 the line was extended to the Bohemian Moldau. The main purpose was the transport of Bohemian brown coal to the ore-processing plants in Freiberg, in addition to passenger transport. In 1945/46, the Lichtenberger Viadukt was blown up in the last days of WWII, but was made passable again in June 1945. In 1946, the second track between Freiberg and Lichtenberg was dismantled as reparations to the Soviet Union. In 1951, the track on the Rehefeld–Moldau section was removed. In 1972, the Rehefeld–Holzhau section was closed and later dismantled. In 2000, the Freiberg–Holzhau section was renovated by RP Eisenbahn GmbH, and in November 2000 it was reopened by Freiberger Eisenbahn.
