History
The published history of the Stadtwerke covers the history of electricity, gas and water supply as well as the swimming pools and district heating supply and other services of the Stadtwerke for Freising. For electricity supply, it records that in 1892 the Druckerei- und Verlagsanstalt Franz Datterer built a new operations building on the Moosach with a hydroelectric power plant for electricity generation, described as the germ cell of Freising's electricity supply. In 1894 a concession contract with the City of Freising followed for the start of general (public) electricity supply. In 1902 a direct-current local network was built by the Munich firm Schuckert & Co. on behalf of the Datterer printing house. In 1904 the Bayerische Elektrizitätswerke AG, Landshut-München (BEW) took over Freising's electricity supply and a steam power plant at Gartenstraße was commissioned. In 1905 electricity generation began for the city of Erding at the Eitting hydroelectric plant on the Dorfen with a 600 PS three-phase generating unit; surplus electricity was made available to the BEW for supplying the city of Freising, and the BEW laid a 5000-volt line from the Eitting hydroelectric plant to Freising to Gartenstraße and built a converter station there from three-phase to direct current. In 1910 the Amper-Elektrizitätswerke AG commissioned the Kranzberg hydroelectric plant on the Amper, from which the city of Freising was supplied via a 5000-volt line. In 1922 three-phase supply began in the outer areas of the city of Freising. In 1924 the Haag an der Amper hydroelectric plant was built by the Amper-Elektrizitätswerke AG. In 1935 the conversion of the entire local network in the Freising city area to three-phase current began, lasting until 1942. In 1952 the first 20 kV line from the hydroelectric plant followed.
