Overview
Freshmile is a French electric-mobility operator and charging-infrastructure operator (in French, opérateur de mobilité and opérateur d'infrastructures de recharge pour véhicules électriques, or IRVE). Founded in 2010 by Arnaud Mora, the company is headquartered in Entzheim, near Strasbourg, and describes itself as a pioneer of electric charging in France and Europe. Its business covers the full chain of charging services: turnkey installation of charging stations, terminal management and supervision, remote and on-site maintenance coordination, monetisation of stations, access management and interoperability, and publication of stations on online maps. It also operates a mobility service for drivers, built around the Freshmile charging pass and mobile app. On the infrastructure side, Freshmile operates charging stations on behalf of public and private developers — cities, local authorities, businesses, shops, hotels, restaurants and car parks. Terminal owners entrust the company with the technical operation of the stations and with managing the relationship with motorists. On the mobility side, the Freshmile Pro Pass gives business users access to more than 650,000 charging points across Europe, with consumption tracking, charging history and consolidated billing centralised in a single platform. The company also offers a corporate fleet-charging solution, Freshmile Fleet, covering on-site, at-home and on-the-road charging, with 24/7 driver support. Freshmile states that more than 3,000 companies use its professional services. According to French Wikipedia, it supervises around 35,000 charge points in France, representing about 20% of public charging in France for 300,000 users, and in 2023 its network covered roughly 330,000 charge points across Europe. The company has been a strong advocate of the OCPI protocol, which enables optimised communication between mobility operators and infrastructure operators, and it aims to help equip the city of Strasbourg with around 1,000 charging stations by 2035. In 2016 Freshmile Services was created, combining Freshmile with the Caisse des Dépôts, a French public financial institution. In 2021 the company was acquired by Rexel, a French specialist in electrical equipment distribution. Freshmile kept its name and continued its activity of providing charging stations and charging passes. It remains active and positions itself as a leader in the operation of electric charging stations.
History
Freshmile was founded in 2010 by Arnaud Mora under the name Freshmile, with the aim of supporting the deployment of electric-vehicle charging. The company is based in Entzheim, near Strasbourg, and grew into a French leader in its activity. Its early years were focused on building expertise in charging infrastructure and services; the company says it has accumulated more than ten years of R&D to support electric mobility. In 2014 the first terminals came under Freshmile's management, marking its transition into an operator of charging infrastructure. In 2016 the company launched its mobile application and its 100% electric fuel card, and Freshmile Services was created in the same year, combining Freshmile with the Caisse des Dépôts, a French public financial institution. By this period Freshmile had become the first charging service of its kind in France, and it invested in interoperability, notably promoting the OCPI protocol that allows mobility operators and infrastructure operators to communicate efficiently. In 2021 the company was acquired by Rexel, a French specialist in the distribution of electrical equipment. Freshmile kept its name and continued its activity of providing charging stations and charging passes. The following year, in 2022, it introduced its first charging service at the employee's home, extending charging beyond public and workplace locations. By 2023 its network covered roughly 330,000 charge points across Europe, according to French Wikipedia, while in France it supervised around 35,000 charge points, representing about 20% of public charging for 300,000 users. In 2024 Freshmile was described as the leader in the operation of electric charging stations, citing Xerfi 2024. The company continues to operate charging stations on behalf of public and private developers and to provide mobility services through its pass and app, with a stated goal of helping equip the city of Strasbourg with around 1,000 charging stations by 2035.
