History
Freund Corporation was established on April 22, 1964, by Yasutoyo Fusejima in Kanda-Tsukasamachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, during Japan's high economic growth period. In its founding year, the company developed and sold the FM-2 test machine and FM-5 production machine for automatic film coating, as well as the FC-101 and EC-101 film coating liquids for pharmaceuticals. In 1965 it filed a patent for the pharmaceutical excipient HPC, and in 1966 it began exporting machinery to the United States while developing and selling excipients HPS-101, Perfiller-101, Lubriwax-101, and PEP-101. Exports of machinery and chemical products to Taiwan and South Korea began in 1967. In 1969, the company developed and sold the Flow Coater fluid-bed granulation coating system, opened an Osaka sales office in Fukushima-ku, Osaka, and developed the excipient Adsorider-101. During the 1970s and 1980s, Freund expanded rapidly alongside the Japanese economy. In 1970 it developed the Roller Compactor dry granulator and began selling the food powdered oil Lubriwax-102H. In 1971 it developed the Hi-Coater automatic sugar and film coating system. In 1972 it developed lactose G, and in 1975 it signed a sales agency agreement with VECTOR (USA) for the Hi-Coater and Flow Coater, and developed Dilaactose. In 1976 it signed an agency agreement with SCHLEUNIGER (Switzerland) for tablet hardness testers and developed the CF Granulator centrifugal fluid coating system. In 1978 it developed and sold the food preservative Anti-Mold-102. In 1980 it formed a business alliance with Okawara Mfg. Co., Ltd. In 1981 it developed Nonpareil-101 spherical granules, followed by Nonpareil-103 and CMEC in 1982, along with the Spiraflow composite fluid-bed granulation system. In 1983 it developed the FWA-100 water activity meter, in 1985 began importing and selling titanium oxide A-HR, in 1987 developed the multifunctional food preservative Negamold, and in 1988 developed the Aqua Coater film coating system and began selling the Mois Watch near-infrared moisture sensor. From the 1990s, Freund pursued globalization. In 1991 it developed the Spherex seamless mini-capsule system and Nonpareil-105. In 1992 it opened the Hamamatsu Office and Technical Development Laboratory in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, and developed the EZ-100 water activity meter. In 1993 it signed a license agreement with DMV (Netherlands) for Dilaactose, and in 1994 began selling the Granutronics particle image analysis sensor. In 1996 it registered its shares with the Japan Securities Dealers Association (later JASDAQ), and in 1997 it established FREUND Inc. in the United States (formerly VECTOR). The company later listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is currently on the TSE Standard Market under securities code 6312.
