Overview

FSP Group, legally FSP Technology Inc., is a Taiwanese manufacturer of power-supply and power-management equipment headquartered in Taoyuan City. Established in 1993, the company began with power-supply trading and OEM/ODM production, building its initial expertise around personal-computer power supplies. It later expanded into a broad portfolio spanning consumer electronics, industrial systems, servers, telecommunications, medical equipment, uninterruptible power supplies, battery charging, renewable energy, and energy storage. A major early turning point came through FSP's cooperation with Intel. In 1995, the company participated in the introduction of an ATX-form-factor power supply rated at 235 watts, and in 1997 it was designated an Intel seed partner. These relationships helped FSP develop expertise in emerging PC power standards and supported its growth from a manufacturing supplier into a technology and design partner. The company completed its Taoyuan headquarters in 2000 and was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 2002. During the 2000s, FSP broadened its technical and commercial scope. It entered the LCD television open-frame power-supply market, launched the FSP retail brand for consumer products, and developed higher-efficiency architectures including LLC resonance and active power-factor correction. Investments in 3Y Power Technology and Voltronic Power strengthened its industrial and UPS capabilities, while the acquisition of Protek Power expanded research and development for medical and industrial power systems. FSP also developed the proprietary MIA IC chipset and pursued higher power density, digital control, and efficiency certification. The company's product range now includes ATX and other computer power supplies, server and data-center power supplies, adapters, chargers, embedded industrial power supplies, UPS products, solar inverters, microgrid equipment, and energy-storage systems. Its data-center strategy includes CRPS-compliant supplies for servers, networking equipment, hyperscale facilities, and artificial-intelligence infrastructure. Industrial offerings target automation, edge computing, telecommunications, and medical applications, while consumer products include PC power supplies, external adapters, and USB Power Delivery chargers. FSP has increasingly emphasized efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Its products include numerous 80 PLUS-certified designs, and the company presents energy conversion efficiency as a means of reducing the environmental footprint of electronic equipment. In the 2020s, it directed additional research toward the power requirements of edge AI, generative AI, high-performance computing, and data-center infrastructure. Manufacturing expansion included a third Taoyuan plant and a Vietnam facility that began mass production in 2023. FSP remains an active, publicly listed global power-technology company whose brand slogan is “Power Never Ends.”

History

FSP Group was incorporated in April 1993 and initially combined power-supply trading with OEM and ODM manufacturing. Its early specialization was personal-computer power equipment, an area in which standards were rapidly changing. Cooperation with Intel became an important foundation: FSP participated in the development of an ATX 235W power supply in 1995 and was designated an Intel seed partner in 1997. The company completed its global headquarters in Taoyuan in 2000 and entered the Taiwan Stock Exchange in October 2002. FSP broadened its business during the following decade. It entered the LCD television open-frame power market in 2003 and introduced the FSP retail brand for consumer customers. In 2004, it incorporated LLC resonant topology into PC power-supply development. A 2005 investment in 3Y Power Technology supported expansion into higher-power industrial products, while work on active PFC architecture strengthened its efficiency and OEM capabilities. Laboratory and compliance capabilities were expanded in 2006 through certifications and approvals associated with CSA, TÜV, TMP, and TDAP. The company continued to diversify through corporate investments and acquisitions. In 2007, it acquired Protek Power to integrate medical and industrial power-supply research. In 2008, it invested in Voltronic Power Technology to reinforce its UPS portfolio. FSP developed the MIA IC chipset in 2009 and introduced the FSP450-60PTM in 2010, described by the company as the first 80 PLUS Platinum-certified power supply. MIA IC technology was subsequently used in the AURUM family. The RAIDER series followed in 2012, and FSP reported more than 400 registered global patents in 2013, the same year it announced a compact 65W laptop adapter. FSP added new facilities and technologies in the late 2010s. It opened a new Taoyuan research-and-development building in 2017, developed a liquid-cooled power supply in 2018, and entered the 5G power-supply market. In 2019 it expanded into battery chargers and completed a transition of product lines toward the IEC 62368-1 safety standard. Construction of Taoyuan Plant 3 began in 2020 and the plant was inaugurated in 2021. In the 2020s, FSP's strategic emphasis shifted toward complete power systems rather than standalone PC components. Its portfolio came to cover server and networking supplies, industrial and medical embedded supplies, UPS equipment, solar inverters, microgrids, energy storage, chargers, and consumer power products. The growth of AI and high-performance computing led the company to focus additional research on high-density, digitally controlled supplies for data centers, edge devices, and generative-AI infrastructure. Its Vietnam manufacturing facility was completed and began mass production in 2023, and its battery-charger products obtained IATF 16949 certification in 2024. Across these phases, FSP has presented efficiency, reliability, continuous research, and sustainability as central elements of its “Power Never Ends” brand proposition.
