Overview
Fuji Taxi Group (株式会社フジタクシーグループ) is a Japanese taxi operator headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Founded in July 1957 by Kyosuke Umemura, the group began as a single taxi business and grew through acquisitions and mergers to become one of the largest taxi operators in Japan. It was renamed Fuji Kotsu Co., Ltd. in 1960 and later consolidated its subsidiaries into Fuji Taxi Group Co., Ltd. in 1995. The group operates a fleet of several hundred vehicles, primarily in Nagoya and surrounding areas, and also has operations in Hiroshima through NISIKI Taxi. The company has a long history of industry firsts: it introduced computer-based office management in 1970, multi-printers in taxis in 1987, drive recorders in all vehicles in 2005, and wide-angle LED roof signs in 2005. In 2006 it launched the Fuji Owners System (FOS), a patented business model for legal and individual taxi business partnerships. In 2018 it became the first taxi company in Japan to introduce Uber, followed by DiDi in 2019 and the GO app in 2022. The group also emphasizes driver welfare, offering fixed-salary systems and diverse work styles. Fuji Taxi Group is privately held and remains family-influenced, with the Umemura family having led the company since its founding. Its corporate philosophy centers on contributing to society through transportation and lifestyle services, with a focus on trust, consideration, and organizational management. The group is known for its pink taxis and the "Golden Fuji Taxi" that operates during commemorative periods.
History
