Fundação Abrinq

Fundação Abrinq is a Brazilian foundation that works to defend the rights of children and adolescents. It was created in 1989 by the Associação Brasileira dos Fabricantes de Brinquedos (ABRINQ) as a Diretoria de Defesa dos Direitos da Criança, a body that later became the Fundação Abrinq pelos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente. The foundation describes itself as a bridge between those who want to help and those who need help, working with donors, volunteers, organizations, companies and municipalities. Its activities include the Programa Prefeitas e Prefeitos Amigos da Criança and support for projects that promote mental health in childhood.

According to the foundation's official website, in response to numerous episodes of violations of the rights of children and adolescents in Brazil, such as homicides and child labor, the Associação Brasileira dos Fabricantes de Brinquedos (ABRINQ) created in 1989 a Diretoria de Defesa dos Direitos da Criança — a body that would later become the Fundação Abrinq pelos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente. The initiative was motivated by the belief that it would not be possible to expect the public authorities to resolve such issues alone, and by the conviction that work in favor of children and adolescents in vulnerable situations in the country should not be an individual action but a collective effort of society as a whole. In the early days of its work, various actions were carried out in partnership with other sectors of society, establishing from then on the characteristics of the entity that are preserved to the present day: a focus on mobilization and participation of society.

A bridge between those who want to help and those who need help, mobilizing society in favor of children's and adolescents' rights.
