Fundação do Ensino Superior de Rio Verde

The Fundação do Ensino Superior de Rio Verde (FESURV) is a Brazilian municipal public foundation based in Rio Verde, Goiás. It is the maintaining entity (entidade mantenedora) of the Universidade de Rio Verde (UniRV), a public municipal university that operates campuses in Rio Verde, Caiapônia, Goiânia, Aparecida de Goiânia, Goianésia, Formosa and Luziânia. The foundation's origins trace back to 1968, when a pedagogy course was created in Rio Verde as an extension of the Universidade Católica de Goiás (PUC Goiás). After the PUC Goiás extension was abandoned, the local community organized the Sociedade de Ensino de Rio Verde (SERVE) in 1969, which was replaced the following year by the Fundação Universitária de Rio Verde (FURV). In 1973, FURV was replaced by the Fundação de Ensino Universitário de Rio Verde (FEURV), which for the first time received municipal budget funding. With public authorities entering the project, PUC Goiás withdrew and renounced its rights over the letters course. FEURV created the Faculdade de Filosofia da Fundação Universitária de Rio Verde (FAFI-FESURV) on 19 March 1973, and began its new format on 3 August 1973, adding short-degree courses in social studies, sciences and pedagogy. In 1974, FEURV was renamed Fundação de Ensino Superior de Rio Verde (FESURV). On 24 February 2003, Law No. 4,541 created the Universidade de Rio Verde (UniRV) by elevating FAFI-FESURV to university status; FESURV remained as the maintaining foundation. Today UniRV describes itself as a large university and one of the most well-regarded in Brazil, with a broad academic structure that includes clinics, laboratories and community service units. The foundation's administrative headquarters are located at Fazenda Fontes do Saber in Rio Verde, Goiás.

The historical trajectory of the Fundação do Ensino Superior de Rio Verde (FESURV) and the university it maintains begins in 1968, when a pedagogy course was created in Rio Verde as an extension of the Universidade Católica de Goiás (PUC Goiás), later changed to a letters course in the same year. The possibility of an extension course maintained entirely by PUC Goiás was abandoned, forcing the Rio Verde community to organize itself. In 1969, the Sociedade de Ensino de Rio Verde (SERVE) was created to serve as the maintaining entity of the course. The following year, SERVE was replaced by the Fundação Universitária de Rio Verde (FURV). Until that point, it was a private foundation without public participation.
