Fundação Gilberto Freyre

The Fundação Gilberto Freyre is a Brazilian foundation created in 1987 with the mission of preserving and making publicly available the personal and intellectual heritage assembled by the Pernambuco writer Gilberto Freyre, and of encouraging the continuation of his studies and ideas, aimed at understanding and interpreting Brazilian cultural and social reality. Its personal heritage, listed by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN), includes the architectural and landscape ensemble formed by the Casa-Museu Magdalena e Gilberto Freyre and the surrounding Sítio Ecológico, as well as a museological collection. Its intellectual heritage includes the copyrights to the writer's work, image rights, and a vast bibliographic and documentary collection. The foundation's campus also houses a document cleaning and restoration laboratory and a cultural space with an auditorium, foyer, multipurpose rooms, and a room reserved for the bibliographic and documentary collection and for serving researchers. It maintains a virtual store offering books about Gilberto Freyre and other Pernambuco authors.

Its personal heritage, listed by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN), comprises the architectural and landscape ensemble formed by the Casa-Museu Magdalena e Gilberto Freyre and the surrounding Sítio Ecológico, along with a museological collection including a picture gallery, furniture, decoration, clothing, ethnographic, folk art, and archaeology collections, among others. Its intellectual heritage includes the copyrights to the writer's work, image rights, and a vast bibliographic and documentary collection formed, for example, by the originals of his works and his research notes, his personal library, and collections of photographs, correspondence, and manuscripts. This estate is located on the institution's campus, which, besides the house-museum and the ecological site, also has a document cleaning and restoration laboratory and a cultural space equipped with an auditorium, foyer, multipurpose rooms, and a room reserved for the bibliographic and documentary collection and for serving researchers. To ensure efficient management of these spaces and access to its collections, the foundation continuously carries out activities focused on preserving documentary, bibliographic, and museological collections, serving researchers and visitors, holding exhibition actions, and maintaining a regular educational programming agenda.

A heritage and cultural institution dedicated to preserving Gilberto Freyre's legacy and contributing to the understanding and strengthening of Brazilian cultural identity.
