Fundação Pedro Calmon

Fundação Pedro Calmon (FPC) was created by Bahia state law no. 4,662 of 29 April 1986, inspired by the transformative power of reading. In 2002, by state law no. 8,538 of 20 December, it became Fundação Pedro Calmon - Centro de Memória e Arquivo Público da Bahia. Linked to the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Bahia, FPC coordinates the implementation, articulation and management of cultural policies in the fields of reading, libraries, archives and memory of the State of Bahia. Its mission is to guarantee the identity of the people of Bahia, and it manages and promotes seven public libraries, the Consuelo Pondé Virtual Library, the Public Archive of the State of Bahia and the Memory Center.

Inspired by the transformative power of reading at the end of the 1980s, Fundação Pedro Calmon was created through Bahia state law no. 4,662 of 29 April 1986. In 2002, by state law no. 8,538 of 20 December, it became Fundação Pedro Calmon - Centro de Memória e Arquivo Público da Bahia. Linked to the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Bahia, FPC coordinates the implementation, articulation and management of cultural policies in the fields of reading, libraries, archives and memory of the State of Bahia. With the mission of guaranteeing the identity of the people of Bahia, FPC manages and promotes seven public libraries, the Consuelo Pondé Virtual Library, the Public Archive of the State of Bahia and the Memory Center, contributing mainly to the preservation of history and memory and encouraging the construction of Bahian identity and the valorization of the State. Its main objective is to work in the organization, preservation and dissemination of documentary collections of public and private archives, stimulating and promoting activities related to books and reading, updating and disseminating its collections, with the aim of becoming a national reference in access to information, memory and knowledge by 2035.
