Overview

FutureModel Corp. (フューチャーモデル株式会社) is a Japanese company headquartered on the 28th floor of Shinjuku Front Tower in Kitashinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. It describes itself as a 'smart trading company' (スマート商社) — a new-style trading house that does not simply sell goods but combines products with services and data to stay continuously connected with customers. The company positions itself as the smartphone to the traditional trading house's feature phone: value that begins after purchase, delivered through planning, procurement, sales, after-sales service, apps and cloud, subscriptions and warranties on a one-stop basis. FutureModel was founded in September 2009, originally as a one-person venture selling smartphone accessories, and began OEM development in 2010. Its business now spans three pillars: an OEM solutions business that develops smartphone accessories and smart home appliances for third parties (including customization support for customers building their own brands); an import agency business that brings outstanding overseas products to the Japanese market with stable supply; and a user platform business that uses digital solutions, data analysis and marketing support to improve user experience. Its registered main business is the development, manufacture, import/export and sale of telecommunications device-related products. The company has a track record of launching its own devices, including the KOU independent Bluetooth earphone (2017), the NichePhone-S SIM-free feature phone (2017) and its 4G successor (2018), and the ez:commu two-way voice AI translator (2018). It has expanded overseas with a China base (2013) and a Vietnam base (2024), and has built a group that includes IoTBank Inc. (2019) and BegaloJapan, whose overseas e-commerce distribution exceeded 500 million yen by March 2023. In 2026 it announced it would handle the Japanese market launch of Rokid AI glasses, a globally watched AI eyewear product, and is recruiting core members for that expansion. FutureModel remains a private company with capital of 10 million yen, led by representative director and president Qu Liang, with a fiscal year ending in August and main banking relationships with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, Mizuho Bank, Resona Bank and Shoko Chukin Bank.

History

FutureModel began in September 2009 as a one-person business selling smartphone accessories. In October 2010 the company started OEM operations, and by April 2013 the OEM business had grown rapidly enough to establish a base in China. In September 2017 it launched the KOU, a fully independent Bluetooth earphone, followed in November 2017 by the NichePhone-S, a SIM-free feature phone. In June 2018 it released the ez:commu, a two-way voice AI translator, and in September 2018 the NichePhone-S 4G, an ultra-compact LTE-capable SIM-free feature phone. In September 2019 the group established IoTBank Inc. In September 2021 FutureModel began its import agency business. By March 2023 its subsidiary BegaloJapan had surpassed 500 million yen in overseas e-commerce distribution. In April 2024 it established a Vietnam base, and in July 2024 it began selling Qi2 chargers. In 2026 the company announced it would drive the full-scale Japanese launch of Rokid AI glasses, positioning itself at the center of the emerging AI eyewear market in Japan.
