In 1930 passenger numbers rose to 2.3 million per year. In 1935 wood-gas-powered buses were introduced. In 1945/46, due to the effects of the war, only 800,000 passengers rode the bus in the final year of the war, and public passenger transport in the city area almost came to a standstill. In 1950 the first buses with underfloor engines were introduced in Göttingen. In 1952, 6 lines were operated with 16 buses. In 1955 the Städtischer Kraftwagenbetrieb was integrated into Stadtwerke Göttingen. In 1963 more than 20 million passengers used the Göttingen city buses annually, with 97 drivers and 68 conductors. In 1969 the central bus station (ZOB) was completed and the last conductors retired. In 1972, in connection with the creation of the pedestrian zone, the bus ring in the city centre was introduced. In 1977, 84 buses served 435 stops. In 1980 the bus depot on Gustav-Bielefeld-Straße was completed and occupied. In 1984 the municipal enterprise Stadtwerke was converted into Stadtwerke Göttingen AG. In 1992 the conversion to low-floor buses began, and stops were rebuilt to make boarding easier for people with disabilities and families with prams. In 1997 on-board computers were introduced, enabling the sale of all tickets on the bus.
