Overview
Götzner Alm is an alpine inn and mountain hut (Alm/Schutzhütte) in the Stubai Alps of Tyrol, Austria, situated at 1,542 metres above sea level in the western Mittelgebirge above Innsbruck. It presents itself as a "GenussALM mit Herz" — a place of enjoyment with heart — combining regional cuisine, homemade sweets and warm hospitality with panoramic views of the Nordkette, the Nockspitze (Saile), the Pfriemesköpfl and the upper Inn valley. The hut is a popular destination for families, hikers and mountain bikers, and serves as a base for numerous summit tours in the surrounding Stubai Alps. The property is owned by 24 Götzner Liegenschaften (landholdings of Götzens), which have managed the alpine pasture since the settlement of Götzens. The hospitality business is operated by tenants Martina and Roland, who took over the Götzner Alm in 2021. Martina is the tenant (Pächterin) and creative organiser, trained at Villa Blanka, while Roland is the tenant-chef, trained in Carinthia and responsible for the kitchen. Together they bring nearly 30 years of experience across hotels, gastronomy and high-alpine hospitality. The Götzner Alm has been recognised for its regional and sustainable cuisine. It has received three Edelweiß from Falstaff in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, and has been distinguished by Gault & Millau in the "Gourmet Almhütte" category in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Its offering includes regional products, sweet highlights from "Laura's Backstube" (bakery), fine coffee and Zirbenlikör (pine liqueur). As a mountain hut, the Götzner Alm is connected to a network of neighbouring huts and trails, including the Adolf-Pichler-Hütte, Schlicker Alm, Mutterer Alm, Nockhof, Birgitzköpflhütte and Birgitzer Alm. In winter, a good touring area surrounds the hut, and tow paths from the Mutterer Alm and Birgitzköpflhütte are used as toboggan runs. The forest road to the Götzner Alm via the Birgitzer Alm is also a popular mountain bike route.
History
The Götzner Alm is a traditional alpine pasture and mountain hut in the Stubai Alps above Götzens, Tyrol. According to the German Wikipedia entry, the alpine pasture has been managed by 24 Götzner Liegenschaften (landholdings of Götzens) since the settlement of Götzens, making the property a long-standing communal agricultural asset rather than a single-owner business. The hut sits at 1,542 metres in the western Mittelgebirge above Innsbruck, in the impressive backdrop of the Stubai Alps. For much of its history the Götzner Alm served as a Schutzhütte (shelter hut) for hikers and as a base for tours to surrounding peaks such as the Hoadl, Saile (Nockspitze), Ampferstein, Marchreisenspitze, Hochtennspitze, Pfriemeswand, Spitzmandl and Birgitzköpfl. It is connected to a network of neighbouring huts including the Adolf-Pichler-Hütte, Schlicker Alm, Mutterer Alm, Nockhof, Birgitzköpflhütte and Birgitzer Alm. In winter, the area around the hut is a good touring area, and tow paths from the Mutterer Alm and Birgitzköpflhütte are used as toboggan runs. The forest road to the Götzner Alm via the Birgitzer Alm is also a popular mountain bike route. A major turning point came in 2021, when Martina and Roland took over the Götzner Alm as tenants. According to the official website, this closed a circle for the couple: they brought their entire experience in hotels, gastronomy and high-alpine hospitality to the Alm. Martina trained at Villa Blanka and worked from service and reception to hotel director and tourism consultant; Roland completed a chef-waiter apprenticeship in his home region of Carinthia and worked as a passionate chef. Together they have been a team privately and professionally for almost 30 years. Under their management, the Götzner Alm has positioned itself as a "GenussALM mit Herz" — a place where personal atmosphere meets sporty casualness. The kitchen focuses on regional products and sustainable cuisine, complemented by sweet highlights from "Laura's Backstube", fine coffee and Zirbenlikör. The hut has been repeatedly awarded: Falstaff gave it three Edelweiß in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, and Gault & Millau recognised it in the "Gourmet Almhütte" category in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. The Götzner Alm remains a family-friendly excursion destination and a perfect stop on the mountain, with panoramic views of the Nordkette, the Nockspitze (Saile), the Pfriemesköpfl and the upper Inn valley.
