Overview

GATHERING HOLDINGS, INC. (ギャザリングホールディングス株式会社) is a Japanese holding company whose business centers on copyright and content production — the production and investment in films and characters, and licensing businesses built on secondary use of copyrights. It was founded in September 2009 as Gathering Co., Ltd. by Kazuhiro Toda, a former executive of Nissho Iwai (now Sojitz), Dream Incubator, GDH and DLE. In September 2015 the company changed its trade name to Gathering Holdings Co., Ltd. and spun off its production division into a newly established second-generation Gathering Co., Ltd. The group's core operating subsidiaries are animation studios. Resupuri Co., Ltd. (株式会社レスプリ) is a digital-drawing animation studio producing TV anime, short anime, adaptations of original works and original anime. Monsters Egg Co., Ltd. (モンスターズエッグ株式会社) is a CG animation studio aiming to go beyond conventional animation-studio concepts, delivering cute characters to the world and creating unique digital content from VTubers to feature-length works. The holding company describes its mission as taking content created by the group's creators, deploying it across multimedia and transmitting it domestically and internationally through its content-business know-how, thereby raising brand value. Gathering Holdings' own profile lists its business as copyright business and content production, plus consulting on art and content. Its representative is Representative Director and CEO Kazuhiro Toda, whose production credits include producing the TV anime "Gudetama," production-producing "Gundam-san," "Tono to Issho" and "Donyatsu," serving as general producer of the second season of "Eagle Talon" (秘密結社 鷹の爪), and executive-producing the Netflix series "Gudetama: An Eggcellent Adventure" (ぐでたま 〜母をたずねてどんくらい〜), as well as general-producing the first three theatrical "Eagle Talon" films. The company has grown through a series of capital increases, relocations and subsidiary formations. It established Karasfilms in 2015, invested in Good Luck Three in 2015, founded Resupuri in 2016 and Monsters Egg in 2018, and merged its Gathering and Karasfilms subsidiaries in 2018. It absorbed Gathering Co., Ltd. in February 2022. In October 2023 it concluded a capital and business alliance with Happinet, and in April 2024, through a partial transfer of shares, it became a group company of Shin-Ei Animation. Its headquarters have moved several times, from Chiyoda to Shibuya, back to Chiyoda, then to Minato (Nishi-Shinbashi), and since September 2022 to Higashi-Ikebukuro in Toshima, Tokyo. Its main banks are Mizuho Bank (Marunouchi Branch), Resona Bank (Akihabara Branch), Seibu Shinkin Bank (Kanda Branch) and the Japan Finance Corporation. On the consumer-facing side, the group's news releases announce online stores and pop-up stores for Sanrio characters such as Pompompurin, Hapidanbui, Keroppi and Tuxedo Sam, indicating activity in character merchandise and licensing retail. The company remains a privately held, unlisted Japanese corporate group.

History

Gathering Holdings traces its origin to September 2009, when Kazuhiro Toda founded Gathering Co., Ltd. Toda had previously worked at Nissho Iwai (later Sojitz), Dream Incubator and GDH, and had served as a director of DLE until August of that year. In the same month of its founding, the company moved its head office from Chiyoda Ward to Shibuya Ward and increased its capital to 4 million yen. Further capital increases followed: to 6 million yen in July 2010, 8.45 million yen in July 2011 and 16 million yen in March 2012. The head office moved within Shibuya in December 2010 and then back to Chiyoda Ward in December 2012. In April 2015 the company established Karasfilms Co., Ltd. as a subsidiary, and in August 2015 it invested in Good Luck Three Co., Ltd. A major structural change came in September 2015, when the company changed its trade name to Gathering Holdings Co., Ltd. and newly established a second-generation Gathering Co., Ltd., splitting off its production division. Capital was increased to 23.88 million yen in July 2016 and to 33.66 million yen in August 2016; in November 2016 the subsidiary Gathering Co., Ltd. raised its capital to 10 million yen. In December 2016 the company founded Resupuri Co., Ltd. as a subsidiary, and in March 2018 Resupuri increased its capital to 6 million yen. In September 2018 Monsters Egg Co., Ltd. was established; in October 2018 Resupuri's capital was raised to 10 million yen and Monsters Egg's to 100 million yen. In December 2018 the subsidiaries Gathering Co., Ltd. and Karasfilms Co., Ltd. were merged. The company also formed and later dissolved other ties: in 2016 it entered a capital and business partnership with Domerica, which was dissolved the following year, and in April 2019 it established Gagameido Co., Ltd. The head office moved from Chiyoda Ward to Minato Ward in July 2019, and capital was increased to 37.87 million yen in November 2019. In March 2021 the company changed its fiscal year-end from August to March, and in April 2021 it moved its head office to Nishi-Shinbashi in Minato Ward. At the end of February 2022 it absorbed Gathering Co., Ltd. In September 2022 the head office moved from Minato Ward to Toshima Ward. In September 2023, through a third-party allotment of new shares to Happinet Corporation, the company increased its capital to 60 million yen. In October 2023 it concluded a capital and business alliance with Happinet. In April 2024, through a partial transfer of shares, it became a group company of Shin-Ei Animation Co., Ltd. In November 2025 the subsidiary Resupuri increased its capital to 25 million yen. Today the group's business is described as the production and investment in copyrighted works such as films and characters, and licensing centered on secondary use of copyrights. Its group companies are Resupuri, a digital-drawing animation studio, and Monsters Egg, a CG animation studio. The holding company also lists past group companies Domerica, Gathering and Gagameido, and lists talent Kanon Masaki as affiliated.
