Overview
GC-GRUPPE is a German wholesale group for building technology (SHK) headquartered in Bremen. It describes itself as a strong association of personally managed Haustechnik wholesalers nationwide, offering services and innovative products from a single source, and as an SHK specialist wholesaler for skilled trades. Its history page states the GC-GRUPPE was founded in Bremen in 1975 as a specialist wholesaler for Haustechnik, emerging from the family businesses CORDES & GRAEFE BREMEN, WILHELM GIENGER GmbH (Munich) and cooperation partners GOTTSCHALL & SOHN and WILHELM GIENGER GmbH (Kornwestheim Stuttgart). The group operates a three-stage distribution channel and offers the GC ONLINE PLUS online shop for professionals, with more than 5 million articles.
History
According to the official history page, on 1 November 1921 August Cordes and Alfred Graefe founded the pipe wholesaler CORDES & GRAEFE in Bremen. In 1933 Friedrich Carl Hollweg acquired a share and August Cordes bequeathed shares to his son Hans Cordes shortly thereafter; Hollweg and Cordes gave CORDES & GRAEFE a new direction and expanded the pipe trade into a wholesaler for Haustechnik. In 1966 Uwe and Klaus Hollweg made the most important company-policy decision in the history of the traditional wholesaler with the Vertriebsweg-Erklärung, committing CORDES & GRAEFE in writing to the three-stage distribution channel and thus to the skilled trades. In 1974 the first ABEX (Abholexpresslager) in the industry was opened in Aachen. In 1975 the GC-GRUPPE was founded in Bremen as a specialist wholesaler for Haustechnik from the family businesses CORDES & GRAEFE BREMEN, WILHELM GIENGER GmbH (Munich) and cooperation partners GOTTSCHALL & SOHN and WILHELM GIENGER GmbH (Kornwestheim Stuttgart); as medium-sized companies, the partners could only prevail together against the then market-dominating groups. In 1994 the HTI-GRUPPE was founded through the spin-off of activities in civil engineering and industrial technology. In 1996 GC ONLINE PLUS opened the industry's first online shop, and the group states it remains a pioneer in e-commerce, with customers choosing from more than 5 million articles.
