gepe Gebäudedienste PETERHOFF GmbH is a German family-owned corporate group providing full-service facility management and building services. Founded in 1956 by Erich Wilhelm Peterhoff, an electrician with the railway, the company began as a glass-cleaning business in Düren and has grown into one of the market leaders in its sector. Headquartered in the Birkesdorf commercial district of Düren, directly on the A4 motorway, the group today employs more than 6,000 people across all German federal states. Its service portfolio covers building management, building cleaning (including maintenance cleaning, hospital cleaning, industrial cleaning and glass cleaning), security services and catering. The company is led in the third generation by managing director Erich B. Peterhoff, joined since 2014 by co-managing director Antja Schulz, the first woman in this top position at gepe. The group operates through several subsidiaries and holdings, including gepe Gebäudedienste PETERHOFF GmbH, gepe Sicherheitsdienste PETERHOFF GmbH, Gebäudereinigung Bigotte GmbH & Co. The company was founded in 1956 by Erich Wilhelm Peterhoff, an electrician at the railway, as a glass-cleaning business in Düren. Over time, the service range was expanded to include maintenance cleaning, hospital cleaning and nursing home cleaning. From 1986 onwards, new locations were gradually established nationwide across Germany. A former mill in Obermaubach was converted into a seminar centre, and another training centre was built at the company's headquarters in the 'Im großen Tal' commercial area in Birkesdorf. The company has grown continuously and remains owner-managed in the third generation. In 2011, managing director Erich Peterhoff appeared on the RTL documentary soap 'Undercover Boss', working incognito for five days as a machine cleaner, window cleaner and cleaner in a hospital and a swimming pool alongside his own employees. By 2016, the group reported total employees of 7,110 including organ companies, with gepe alone employing 5,941, and total group revenue of EUR 117.5 million (gepe: EUR 98.3 million).
