Overview

Geer Software Co., Ltd. (格尔软件股份有限公司), branded internationally as KOAL, is a Chinese information-security software company whose business is built around commercial cryptography and public key infrastructure (PKI). Founded in March 1998 and headquartered in Shanghai, the company describes itself as one of China's earliest developers of PKI products and as a lead unit of the national science-and-technology support program for commercial cryptography infrastructure. It listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange Main Board in April 2017 under the ticker 603232 SH, making it one of the earlier information-security software companies to reach that market in that period. The company's product portfolio is organized around several layers of security infrastructure. Its identity-security infrastructure includes root certificate issuance, certificate issuance, certificate registration and audit, key management, and comprehensive certificate management systems, as well as a trusted identity governance platform. Its cryptographic infrastructure covers cryptographic service platforms, server and cloud server cryptographic machines, signature and verification servers, timestamp servers, and electronic seal systems. Authentication and access control products include secure authentication gateways, SSL application delivery gateways, single sign-on gateways, privileged account management, and API gateways. Terminal security and admission control, data security and privacy protection, and AI large-model security guardrails round out the offering. Geer Software serves government agencies, public security and immigration authorities, ministries and commissions, large enterprises in information technology, finance and manufacturing, banks and securities firms, and defense-related military-industrial groups. The company states that it has served 32 national ministries and commissions, more than 100 state-owned and central enterprises, and more than 200 banks. It operates four research and development centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an, and Chengdu, and reports roughly 700 employees, with registered capital of RMB 230 million. As of the first half of 2024 it reported more than 44 invention patents and more than 100 software copyrights, and it has led or participated in drafting more than 20 national standards and more than 40 industry standards. It has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award three times. Strategically, Geer positions itself as a network-space and digital-asset security leader centered on cryptographic technology, oriented by business applications, and grounded in trusted identity. Its stated mission is to defend digital sovereignty and protect the digital world, and its slogan is 'Make connectivity more trustworthy, make data more secure.' In recent years it has extended its PKI expertise into cloud cryptography services, the industrial internet, the Internet of Things, and the Internet of Vehicles, including a V2X-PKI security service system for intelligent connected vehicles.

History

Geer Software Co., Ltd. was established in March 1998 in China. From its early years the company focused on commercial cryptography, and it became one of the country's earliest developers and vendors of public key infrastructure (PKI) products. It was also among the earlier domestic organizations to pass review by the State Cryptography Administration and to support the SM2 algorithm as a provincial-level electronic certification service institution. The company served as a lead unit of the national science-and-technology support program's commercial cryptography infrastructure project. Over more than two decades the company built a product system around PKI and cryptographic infrastructure, spanning certificate issuance and management, key management, cryptographic machines, signature and verification servers, timestamping, electronic seals, authentication and access control gateways, terminal security, and data security. It participated in building several third-party digital certification center systems in China and developed a customer base concentrated in government, finance, and defense. In April 2017 Geer Software listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange Main Board under the ticker 603232 SH, becoming one of the earlier information-security software companies to list on that board in that period. The listing gave the company a public-market platform to fund continued product development and market expansion. In the years after listing, Geer Software reported growth in intellectual property and standards participation. As of the first half of 2024 it held more than 44 invention patents and more than 100 software copyrights, and had led or participated in drafting more than 20 national standards and more than 40 industry standards. It has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award three times, along with multiple Shanghai science and technology progress awards and party and government cryptography science and technology progress awards. The company reports having served 32 national ministries and commissions, more than 100 state-owned and central enterprises, and more than 200 banks. Geer Software operates four research and development centers, located in Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an, and Chengdu. It has approximately 700 employees, with about 99.3% holding a bachelor's degree or above, and registered capital of RMB 230 million. Its headquarters is at the G60 Commercial Cryptography Industry Base in Songjiang District, Shanghai. As digital transformation accelerated, the company extended its cryptographic and identity technologies into cloud computing, big data, the industrial internet, the Internet of Things, and the Internet of Vehicles. It has worked on domestic cryptographic alliance chains, cloud cryptographic service systems, zero-trust security architectures, and a V2X-PKI security service system for intelligent connected vehicles. It also introduced an AI large-model application security guardrail, reflecting the company's effort to apply its security expertise to new AI-era risks. Its stated strategy is to be a full-stack, full-domain information security service provider, with the mission of defending digital sovereignty and protecting the digital world.
