Geismar describes itself as a world leader in equipment and services for railway track laying and maintenance. Its product range includes modular maintenance machines, rail saws, rail lifting equipment, power logistics groups, battery-powered rail drills, and catenary maintenance vehicles. The company also provides a range of technical services and support, including commissioning, training, spare parts, and equipment rental. In May 2025, a consortium led by Sandton Capital Partners, Verdoso, and MegaRock was selected to take over the Geismar group, which became Geismar Rail Industry Technologies & Services (GRITS).

On 7 May 2025, the consortium led by Sandton Capital Partners, Verdoso, and MegaRock was selected to take over the Geismar group, opening a new chapter in its history. Following this takeover, the company became Geismar Rail Industry Technologies & Services (GRITS). The consortium includes Sandton Capital Partners, an independent North American investment company founded in 2009 specializing in supporting SMEs and mid-sized companies in special situations, which has invested more than 1.8 billion euros since its creation, including around 90 million euros in France; Verdoso, an industrial holding company founded in 1997 with experience in supporting companies in transformation, having taken control of more than 30 companies; and MegaRock Group, a historical partner of Geismar based in China, whose participation is intended to consolidate the group's export capacity, particularly in Asian markets. The takeover offer provides for an initial substantial investment of 20 million euros, without recourse to debt.
