History

Gelion is a battery technology company. Its stated approach combines inexpensive materials and low-cost processing to develop commercially viable energy storage solutions. The company's core technology is Nano-Encapsulated Sulfur (NES™), a sulfur-based cathode active material created to replace strategic minerals used in conventional lithium-ion cathodes. Gelion has signed a £2 million Joint Development Agreement with Mitsui Kinzoku to validate its NES™ Cathode Active Material in sulfur batteries, establish a pathway to commercial-scale production, and support future manufacturing and distribution opportunities in Asia. Matthew Wood was appointed CEO of Gelion, with John Wood continuing to support Gelion as a Senior Advisor. Gelion announced entry into the U.S. market with a strategic collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) aimed at validating Gelion's Nano-Encapsulated Sulfur cathode active material and demonstrating a fully domestic U.S. supply chain. An exclusive commercial licence agreement with the Max-Planck-Innovation GmbH for intellectual property covering nano-encapsulated sulfur cathode technology and novel nano-confined anode materials was signed by Gelion Technologies Pty Ltd. Gelion commenced a three-year collaborative project alongside Nissan Technical Centre Europe and the University of Oxford to deliver solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries for EVs.

Products and positioning
