Overview

Général Emballage is an Algerian paper and packaging company specialising in the manufacture and conversion of corrugated cardboard. Founded in 2000 by Ramdane Batouche in the Taharacht industrial zone at Akbou, in the Béjaïa wilaya, it began production in 2002 and has grown into the largest corrugated board producer in Algeria and, according to French Wikipedia, the largest in Africa. The company operates three industrial sites — Akbou, Oran and Sétif — with a nominal capacity of close to 260,000 tonnes and more than 1,300 employees. Its registered capital stands at 2,000,000,000 Algerian dinars. The company's business spans three strategic areas: the production of corrugated cardboard sheets for converters and logistics activities; the conversion of corrugated board into packaging, trays and point-of-sale advertising (PAV/PLV) through printing and die-cutting processes; and the recovery of post-consumer recycled paper (PCR). Général Emballage manufactures to order double-face boards (B, C, E and F flutes) and double-double boards (BC and BE), as well as packaging and displays, and carries out high-resolution post-printing in up to six colours with full or selective varnish. Its teams manage the entire production chain, from design and prototyping to die-cut forms, printing films, packaging and display manufacturing, and delivery. Product lines include office and archiving boxes, board and interleaves, PAV and PLV displays, American-style cases, trays and die-cuts, takeaway food packaging, and fruit and vegetable trays. The company also offers paraffin-coated board, recommended for packaging requiring resistance to moisture, grease and corrosion, suitable for cold rooms and for exporting fruit, vegetables and meat products. Its high-resolution flexography is presented as a cost-effective alternative to offset lamination and display advertising. Général Emballage is certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 for its integrated quality, health and safety at work, and environmental management system. It positions sustainability and social commitment as pillars of its growth, describing its industry as a regenerative "closed loop" and acting as both a supplier of packaging and a buyer of paper and cardboard waste. In 2024 it launched a project to build a paper mill at Naâma with a planned capacity of 350,000 tonnes per year.
