Overview
Genus Plus (originally Genus TV) was a regional television station based in Liberec, Czech Republic. The company Genus TV a.s. was founded in 1993, and a broadcasting licence was granted on 12 March 1996. It initially aired in designated time slots on the channel TV Prima, and later became part of a nationwide network of regional televisions under the name R1 Genus. The station sought its own dedicated channel as early as 2005 but was unsuccessful at that time. In 2008, FTV Prima acquired a majority stake in the company, while S group Holding had previously been the sole shareholder; S group Holding bought Genus back in 2011. From 1 February 2012, the television broadcast on a separate 24-hour channel, though some reports continued to appear in Prima's news coverage. Broadcasting ceased on 1 February 2013. After the end of television broadcasting, Genus Plus transformed into an internet news server. The station typically aired an hour-long block on weekdays that was repeatedly rerun, with weekend reruns of the week's programmes. It also included press conference recordings and an information news ticker. Its main news programme, Minuty regionu, involved regional stations such as Televize Pardubice. The station was often criticised for its purposefulness and strong ties to the Liberec cell of the Civic Democratic Party, though it denied these allegations. Genus also operates the news server Týden v Libereckém kraji and is active on Facebook, and it provides advertising space.
