Overview

Geopost is an international express and parcel delivery brand under the French La Poste group, offering global parcel transportation and logistics solutions.

History

The DPD network began in 1977 in Aschaffenburg, West Germany, as Deutscher Paketdienst. The business later adopted the name Dynamic Parcel Distribution, and the DPD identity became associated with a road-based parcel network designed around standardized, machine-sortable shipments. Geopost, the logistics subsidiary of France’s La Poste Groupe, expanded its position in the sector through acquisitions and shareholdings. In November 2000, Geopost acquired the United Kingdom parcel company Parceline and Ireland’s Interlink. In 2001 it became DPD’s principal shareholder and began extending the DPD identity beyond Germany. Parceline was rebranded DPD, with the transition completed in 2008. Geopost also acquired a substantial position in Spain’s SEUR network in 2004 and bought Exapaq in France in 2006. A 2007 partnership with Yurtiçi Kargo gave Geopost a minority position in the Turkish parcel market. A major organizational change took place in 2015, when the DPD, Chronopost and SEUR brands were brought together under the DPDgroup umbrella. Exapaq became DPD France, while Chronopost’s identity was adjusted to show its relationship with the group. The structure allowed local brands to retain market recognition while sharing international capabilities, technology and strategic direction. The following years brought further geographic and service expansion. Geopost increased its SEUR interest to 94% in 2018 and acquired a minority stake in Ninja Van, a Southeast Asian last-mile specialist. In 2019 it raised its ownership of Italian operator BRT to 85%, acquired a majority stake in cross-border provider Lenton, and developed a relationship with Geis Parcel in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It also expanded specialist logistics through investments and acquisitions connected with food, healthcare, laboratory and temperature-sensitive delivery. In 2017, the group acquired Stuart, a technology-enabled rapid delivery company serving merchants and e-commerce businesses. Its Brazilian position in Jadlog reached 98% in 2020. The group’s operating model spans domestic parcel services, intra-European road delivery and intercontinental flows supported by partnerships. Its customer mix includes retailers, manufacturers, online marketplaces, small businesses and private senders. The growth of e-commerce shifted strategic attention toward home delivery, parcel shops, lockers, delivery-time choice, predictive notifications, weekend delivery and same-day services. The group also developed major sorting and urban-depot infrastructure, including a large European hub in Eindhoven. Environmental policy became a prominent corporate theme. DPDgroup committed to carbon-neutral deliveries in 2012 and combined vehicle-efficiency measures, alternative-fuel and electric fleets, urban consolidation and carbon-credit purchases. In 2019 it introduced a group-wide air-quality monitoring program using sensors on delivery vehicles and pickup locations. It also announced an ambition to serve major European cities with zero- or low-emission delivery methods. In 2023, the corporate organization was rebranded Geopost, making the former DPDgroup name primarily a historical or transitional designation. DPD continues as a major operating brand within the portfolio, alongside Chronopost, SEUR, BRT and other regional businesses. In 2024, the broader Geopost organization reported 2.1 billion parcels delivered, €15.8 billion in revenue and 55,000 full-time-equivalent employees. The company remains owned by La Poste Groupe and is active internationally.
