Founded in 1894 by Walther Hermann Gericke in Zurich, the company has grown into a global provider of turnkey solutions for industries such as food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, minerals, pet and animal food, and environmental and energy. Headquartered in Regensdorf, Switzerland, Gericke designs and manufactures key components in-house, including feeders, mixers, pneumatic conveying systems, and automation controls. The company operates through subsidiaries and sales offices in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa, with production sites in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Gericke is known for its engineering expertise, customer service, and sustainable technologies. The group remains privately held and is currently led by CEO Markus H. Gericke, representing the fourth generation of family ownership.

History

Gericke Group was founded in 1894 by Walther Hermann Gericke, a 38-year-old millwright who decided to become self-employed in Zurich after failing to find suitable employment. The company initially focused on grain mills and related industries, which were among the first to use automatic conveying systems for bulk materials. In 1924, the founder's sons, Otto H. Gericke and Walter H. Gericke, took over the business and began expanding. They acquired a new property at Sihlquai 73–75 near Zurich's main train station. Together with engineer O. Soder, they developed a revolutionary roller mill with patented weight regulation that allowed for finer and more bakeable flour, improving yields for millers. In the early 1940s, Gericke developed new pneumatic conveyors for fine bulk materials, becoming a pioneer in pneumatic conveying. This know-how proved essential for entering new markets, particularly in the food industry. In 1954, Willi Gericke, son of Otto H. Gericke, joined the company, followed by his brother Hermann Gericke in 1956, marking the third generation's involvement. In 1957, Gericke built a new factory at Althardstrasse 120 in Regensdorf, becoming the first company to move to the town near Zurich. In 1966, Hermann Gericke discovered a new vertical mixer during a visit to London, which was licensed and allowed the company to enter new applications in the food and heavy chemical industries. The following decades saw the founding or acquisition of subsidiaries across Europe and various developments in bulk solids technology. Key milestones include the founding of Gericke GmbH in Rielasingen, Germany (1965), Powtek Ltd (later Gericke Ltd) in Manchester, UK (1971), Gericke S.A.S. in Argenteuil, France (1977), and the acquisition of Solids Handling BV in Hoevelaken, Netherlands (1991, renamed Gericke BV in 1993) and RotaVal Ltd in Chippenham, UK (1991). In 1993, Markus H. Gericke, the current CEO, joined the company as managing director of Gericke S.A.S. in France. That same year, Gericke Pte. Ltd. was founded in Singapore. In 1996, Markus Gericke took over group management from his father Hermann Gericke. Subsequent expansions include sales offices in Jakarta (2002) and Bangkok (2005), the integration of Gericke (Shanghai) Pte. Ltd. (2008), the founding of Gericke (Brasil) Ltda. in São Paulo (2010), and Gericke (USA) Inc. in Somerset, NJ (2015). In 2021, Markus Gericke was honored by EY Switzerland as Entrepreneur of the Year in the Family Business category. In 2022, a new factory was built at the headquarters in Regensdorf, and the GUC-F multi-channel feeding and dosing controller was introduced. In 2023, Rota Val Ltd. changed its name to Gericke Rotaval Ltd., and Gericke PTE Ltd. in Singapore celebrated its 30th anniversary. In 2024, a sustainability milestone was achieved with over 1,200 m² of solar panels meeting around 60% of Gericke Switzerland's energy requirements. In 2025, PT Gericke Indonesia Powder Solutions started operating as a separate legal entity. In 2026, the third generation of the GFS formulation skid for continuous manufacturing of OSD was introduced.
