Overview

German Dream Empire is a German hip-hop record label founded in 2004 by rapper Eko Fresh. Originally established under the umbrella of Groove Attack as German Dream Entertainment, it became a GmbH under the name German Dream Evangelium in 2007. The label served as a platform for Eko Fresh and a roster of German rappers including Summer Cem, Farid Bang, Capkekz, Kay One, and SDiddy. After a distribution agreement with Groove Attack ended in late 2005, intergroove handled distribution until the end of 2009. The original GmbH ceased to exist in 2015, and in 2017 Eko Fresh relaunched the label as German Dream Empire under Sony Music. The first release of the relaunched label, Eko Fresh's "König von Deutschland," reached number four on the German charts. The label has been associated with several chart successes, including Farid Bang's "Banger leben kürzer" (2011, No. 11) and albums by Summer Cem and Eko Fresh that reached the Top 10. German Dream Empire remains an active imprint in the German rap scene, with Eko Fresh as its central artist and managing director.

History

German Dream was founded in 2004 by German rapper Eko Fresh under the umbrella of Groove Attack. The label initially operated as German Dream Entertainment and served as a home for Eko Fresh and affiliated artists. In 2004, Summer Cem, who had been part of Eko's crew since 2003, released the mixtape "Summer Cem wird ein Star" through the label. Capkekz signed in early 2004, followed by rappers SDiddy and Farid Bang in 2005. A distribution agreement with Groove Attack was dissolved at the end of 2005, after which intergroove took over distribution until the end of 2009. In 2007, the label was registered as a GmbH under the name German Dream Evangelium. That same year, the duo La Honda released the album "Gorillas im Nebel," and Kay One left German Dream to join Bushido's label ersguterjunge. In 2008, SDiddy released "21 Gramm" and Farid Bang released his debut album "Asphalt Massaka." Capkekz followed with "Cap der Angst" in 2009, shortly before the distribution switch from intergroove to 7days/Sony Music. The label's first chart success came in early 2010 with Farid Bang's second album, which reached No. 56 in the German charts. Summer Cem's debut album reached No. 85, and Eko Fresh's "Was kostet die Welt?" reached No. 36. In 2011, Farid Bang's "Banger leben kürzer" reached No. 11, marking the label's first major commercial success, while Eko Fresh's "Ekrem" reached No. 5. In 2012, Summer Cem, Eko Fresh, and Farid Bang each released solo albums that all reached the Top 10 of the German album charts. German Dream Evangelium was dissolved in 2012 after the distribution contract expired. The GmbH ceased to exist in 2015. In 2017, Eko Fresh relaunched the label as German Dream Empire under Sony Music. The first release, "König von Deutschland," reached No. 4 on the German charts. A subsequent best-of album, "Legende," did not chart. The label continues to operate with Eko Fresh as its main artist.
