Overview

Ghost Robotics is a Philadelphia-based robotics company that builds robots for the real world, providing advanced, adaptable solutions to commercial and defense partners. Its flagship offering is the Vision 60, described as the most versatile Q-UGV (Quadrupedal Unmanned Ground Vehicle), designed for defense and commercial applications with modular payloads, all-weather durability, and agility across terrains. The company was founded by Avik De and Gavin Kenneally after developing direct-drive robots such as Minitaur, and Jiren Parikh joined as CEO as the company grew out of UPenn.

History

Ghost Robotics was founded in 2014-2015 by Avik De and Gavin Kenneally after successfully developing multiple direct-drive robots, like Minitaur. Jiren Parikh then joined as CEO as the company grew out of UPenn. In 2016-2018, Ghost Robotics developed the first-ever Vision 60 1.0 robot, and by 2018 the robot was launched commercially and sold to US Army Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). In 2019-2020, the highly capable Vision 60 launched, able to climb stairs, operate inverted and demonstrate reflexes; the team grew to 10 employees and deployed the first base security robot at Tyndall AFB. In 2021-2022, perception systems were added to robots, the Vision 60 achieved IP67 rating, and Ghost was awarded 10x SBIR contracts from AFWERX. In 2023-2025, with over 60+ employees, the team made huge strides in enhancements to the Vision 60 platform, including new payload development and manipulator arm attachments, and the company started to market to the commercial sector.
