Gibaud

Gibaud is a French brand specializing in orthopedics and podology, with a history dating back to 1890. It was born from the meeting of a Saint-Étienne weaver, Maurice Pichon, and a doctor, Docteur Gibaud. The brand is known for its flannel bands and the Gibaud belt, and today offers medical compression, orthopedic, and podology solutions, including the patented CHUT Otonom anti-fall therapeutic shoe. Gibaud is part of Laboratoires Innothera.

Gibaud's history began in 1890 with the creation of the company Pichon Frère, a manufacturer of ribbons and passementerie in Saint-Étienne. Its flagship product was a flannel band that workers wrapped around their lower backs for warmth. In 1935, the first tubular belt was invented: the Dr. Gibaud belt, reportedly conceived during a fishing trip between Maurice Pichon and Docteur Gibaud. The flannel was replaced by wool and the band sewn into a tube. In 1970, the belt was promoted with the slogan "Reins au Chaud du Dr Gibaud" in the metro, on delivery trucks, and on television, and wool underwear was launched under the Mérilaine brand. In 1980, the brand expanded from belts to a full range of orthopedic products with the creation of Gibortho, a prescription brand specialized in rheumatology and traumatology. In 1998, Venactif was launched as Gibaud's medical compression brand, produced in the Trévoux factory in Ain, and Gibaud was the first manufacturer to design compression stockings with patterns. Today, Gibaud is part of Laboratoires Innothera and continues to offer medical compression, orthopedics, and podology solutions, including the patented CHUT Otonom anti-fall therapeutic shoe.
