History
Glacier Cinemas is a movie theater in Juneau, Alaska, United States. It belongs to Gross Alaska Inc., a family cinema business whose roots trace to William David Gross, a Russian-born businessman who traveled north from Seattle to Alaska in 1897 during the Klondike Gold Rush. After ventures in groceries, clothing and tailoring, and saloons, he invested in moving pictures in the early 1900s and opened his first theatre with a loan from Hansine Campen, whom he later married. The couple traveled around Alaska showcasing moving pictures, including through Southeast Alaska, leading to the establishment of Gross Alaska Inc.'s current theatres in Juneau and Ketchikan. The theatres are currently owned and operated by the fourth generation of the family, which states it has been part of these communities for over 125 years.
