Overview

Gleeman Truck Parts is an Australian business that lists new and used machines and equipment for sale or hire in Australia. It was founded by the late Terry Gleeson in the early 1950s, originally as T. Gleeson & Manton Pty. Ltd., and later became Gleeman Pty. Ltd. The business began in Kogarah, southern Sydney, and expanded over the decades, including a branch in Nambucca Heads and a warehouse at Chipping Norton.

History

Gleeman Truck Parts was founded by the late Terry Gleeson in the early 1950s, initially operating as T. Gleeson & Manton Pty. Ltd. out of Stan Manton's garage in Kogarah, southern Sydney. The business later became Gleeman Pty. Ltd. Terry Gleeson's earlier experience with Mack trucks and the shortage of spare parts led him to buy a used EQ series Mack, which he wrecked for spares at his parents' home in Hurstville; the success of this venture prompted the formation of the company. Local council pressure forced a move from Kogarah to a timber yard in Bath Rd, Sutherland. The larger premises allowed expansion into wrecking trucks and crawler tractors, with Mack truck parts as the main business, especially for Macks left in Australia after World War II, most commonly the NR and EH models. In the early 1960s, a branch opened in Nambucca Heads on the NSW north coast to serve the logging and timber industry around Bellingen, Thora, Dorrigo, and Coffs Harbour. As an agent for Truck Sales & Service (Mack) and H.W. Crouch (Diamond T), the branch sold both makes of trucks and spare parts until it was later sold to Volvo Trucks. In the early 1970s, expansion led to the construction of a new warehouse facility at Chipping Norton in Sydney's west, and the company continued to grow, importing parts from around the world.
