History

Global Data Solutions Limited (万国数据服务有限公司) was founded in 2001 as an IT services provider specializing in disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for financial institutions in China. In its early years, the company built a reputation for reliable IT services and gradually expanded into the development and operation of high-performance data centers. By the 2010s, GDS had become one of China's leading data center operators, offering colocation, managed hosting, and managed cloud services. The company adopted a carrier-neutral model, serving major internet and cloud companies, financial institutions, and large enterprises. It established a regional layout across four major areas in China and built large-scale, high-power-density data centers with advanced security and efficiency features. In 2016, GDS Holdings Limited, the parent company of Global Data Solutions Limited, listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange. In 2020, it completed a secondary listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. These listings provided capital for further expansion of data center capacity. GDS has received numerous industry certifications, including ISO 20000, ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 22301, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, ISO 27701, and ISO 56005. It was among the first in China to obtain all four of the ISO 20000, ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 22301 certifications simultaneously. Multiple GDS data centers have also achieved Uptime Institute M&O certification. Today, GDS continues to operate as a leading high-performance data center and IT infrastructure service provider in China, supporting the digital transformation of Chinese enterprises.
