Overview
Go.on Gesellschaft für Bus- und Schienenverkehr mbH is a German transport company based in Bielefeld that operates bus and rail services in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region. It is a joint venture of 24 medium-sized transport companies from the region, which act as its shareholders. The company participates in tenders for route concessions and also offers transport planning services. Its fleet consists of modern, environmentally friendly low-floor buses, and its motto is "#fahr.grüner" (ride greener). The company's service area covers parts of the Gütersloh, Höxter, Lippe, and Paderborn districts, as well as the Holzminden and Kassel districts. Go.on was granted its concession on 18 December 2008 and began operations in 2009. It has since expanded its network, including the integration of a citizens' bus in 2010 and the launch of the "Lippemobil" product in the Detmold-Lemgo-Kalletal area. The managing director is Dirk Hänsgen.
History
Go.on Gesellschaft für Bus- und Schienenverkehr mbH was granted its concession on 18 December 2008. Between January and March 2009, the company sold tickets as "replacement cards" and equipped its vehicles with destination displays. In March and April 2009, single, 4-trip, day, and fun tickets were sold via block sales with support from moBiel. From May 2009, ticket printers were introduced to speed up sales, but technical issues and untrained staff caused problems. In June 2009, line 48 Bielefeld – Brockhagen (-Kölkebeck) began operation, and line 89 was adjusted to provide hourly service. In July 2009, the conversion of dedicated school transport in Halle and Steinhagen into regular services began, and in August 2009 new school transport lines were introduced. By January 2010, passenger numbers had increased on almost all lines. In June 2010, a citizens' bus was integrated into the go.on schedule. On 15 July 2010, lines in the Detmold-Lemgo-Kalletal area began operating under the product name "Lippemobil". On 24 August 2010, managing director Udo Stötzel announced that the concession for the Gütersloh Nord route bundle would be terminated early on 1 July 2011 due to lack of profitability. On 16 October 2010, Dirk Sonnenberg replaced Udo Stötzel as managing director. The district government in Detmold rejected the application for partial release from operating obligations, and the concession was to be replaced from 31 July 2011. The current managing director is Dirk Hänsgen.
