Gordon Biersch Brewing Company

Gordon Biersch Brewing Company is an American craft brewery that traces its origins to 1987, when Dan Gordon graduated from the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan with a brewing engineering degree and soon after met Dean Biersch. The first Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant opened in Palo Alto, California, in 1988. The company brews in adherence to the 500-year-old German purity law known as the Reinheitsgebot, using only malted barley, hops, yeast, and water, with naturally carbonated beers produced through old-school recipes and modern technology such as in-house yeast production. Draft beer distribution began in 1994, and a brewery and bottling plant opened in San Jose in 1997. In 2019 Oliver Gordon joined the team as CFO to continue the company as family owned and operated. In 2022 the company was the 17th largest domestic craft brewery, and in 2024 it expanded production capacity from 2.2 million cases per year to 5.3 million.

In 1997 a brewery and bottling plant opened in San Jose, shipping 550,000 cases in the first year within California and to Hawaii. In 2008 the company celebrated 20 years of independent brewing and announced plans to expand to Taiwan. In 2019 Oliver Gordon joined the team as CFO to continue GB as family owned and operated. In 2020 the GB brewery installed a state-of-the-art canning line featuring a high-tech, German-made filling machine. In 2022 GB was the 17th largest domestic craft brewery, and in 2024 it expanded production capacity from 2.2 million cases per year to 5.3 million.
