Overview
Gottlob Rommel Bauunternehmung is a medium-sized German construction company headquartered in Stuttgart. Founded in 1901 by Gottlob Rommel sen., the firm has remained a privately held, family-influenced business for more than a century and today operates as the Gottlob-Rommel-Gruppe. Its core business is building construction and building-services technology, with a broad service portfolio that covers structural works, turnkey construction, refurbishment and renovation, infrastructure construction, building technology, concrete repair, environmental technology, timber-hybrid construction and project development. The company describes itself as offering a full-service approach to construction projects, combining in-house execution capability with planning and delivery. Its client base spans the housing industry and care-home operators as well as industrial and commercial enterprises and the public sector. Alongside conventional construction, Gottlob Rommel promotes ecological building methods such as timber-hybrid construction and the use of concrete mixes with a lower greenhouse-gas potential, and several of its locations are validated under the EMAS environmental management scheme. Gottlob Rommel is headquartered in Stuttgart and maintains additional locations in Heilbronn, Metzingen, Munich, Dresden and Leipzig. Its history includes the 1933 partnership Rommel & Keller, the separation of the partners in 1956, the establishment of a dedicated turnkey construction company in 1985, expansion into civil engineering and environmental works around 1990, and the opening of a Dresden branch in the 1990s. In 2024 the group acquired Hopfengärtner GmbH in Heilbronn, strengthening its building-services technology division. As a private, medium-sized enterprise, Gottlob Rommel is not listed on a stock exchange. It competes in the German construction market as a regional and national contractor with a reputation for quality, reliability and a wide range of construction and technical services.
History
Gottlob Rommel Bauunternehmung was founded in 1901 by Gottlob Rommel sen. In 1933, the founder handed the company over to his son Gottlob Rommel jun. and Wilhelm Keller, and the business was renamed Rommel & Keller – Unternehmung für Hoch- und Tiefbau. In 1956 Rommel and Keller separated, and the firm continued under the name Bauunternehmung Gottlob Rommel. Eberhard Rommel joined in 1972 and took over the leadership in 1977 after the death of Gottlob Rommel jun. From 1976 the company already operated turnkey construction as a general contractor, but it was not until 1985 that Rommel-SF-Bau GmbH & Co. KG was founded. In 1990 the production programme was expanded to include civil engineering projects, sewage treatment plants, overflow basins and water tanks. In the same year, a department for conversion and renovation and a department for concrete and masonry repair were established. In 1992 the company completed its first turnkey commercial building project, followed in 1993 by entry as a general contractor into turnkey modernisation of existing buildings. In 1994 the company began building a branch in Dresden. In 2000 the Esslingen-based Gerhard Rybinski Bau-Unternehmung GmbH & Co. KG was acquired. In 2001 the Dresden branch founded in 1994 was converted into Rommel Dresden GmbH & Co. KG Bauunternehmung. In 2024 the Gottlob-Rommel-Gruppe acquired Hopfengärtner GmbH in Heilbronn, strengthening its building-services technology division. Today the company is headquartered in Stuttgart and has additional locations in Heilbronn, Metzingen, Munich, Dresden and Leipzig. It serves the housing industry, care-home operators, industrial and commercial enterprises and the public sector, and offers a broad portfolio including structural works, turnkey construction, refurbishment, infrastructure construction, building technology, concrete repair, environmental technology, timber-hybrid construction and project development.
