Overview
GraphicsVision.AI (GVAIN) is an international non-profit research and innovation network operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and advanced digital technologies. According to its official overview, the network brings together leading research institutions and industry-driven organisations and serves as a collaborative platform for developing and scaling cutting-edge technological solutions. Its foundation lies in computer graphics, machine vision, and multimodal systems, and it has evolved into a forward-looking AI network addressing emerging technological, industrial, and societal challenges. The network spans multiple countries and connects a diverse ecosystem of researchers, engineers, and innovation actors. The network was constituted in 2010 by founding members DFKI, Vicomtech, CCG, GraphiTech and Mivtech, originally focused on computer graphics and related basic technological research fields. At that time it was named "GraphicsMedia.net". Over time, GraphiTech left the network (the institute was closed), while other institutes joined: HPI, CEA-LIST, HHI and CGAII. In 2019, the Business Cluster within the network was established, and in early 2019 the members began a rebranding process. Because AI, machine vision and learning are domains in which all members are very active, the company was rebaptised to "GraphicsVision.AI". GVAIN's mission is to bridge research and industry by transforming advanced technological developments into scalable, impactful, and responsible solutions. The network contributes to the design, development, and deployment of AI-driven technologies aligned with European research priorities and societal needs. Through collaborative research, strategic partnerships, and participation in international programmes such as Horizon Europe, GVAIN supports the development of innovative AI technologies, the transfer of knowledge from research to industry, the creation of high-impact multidisciplinary projects, and the strengthening of Europe's technological and innovation capacity. In its vision, GVAIN considers technology as a relation between perception and cognition. The fields of expertise of its partners include computer graphics, computer vision, visualisation and simulation, digital media, HMI, user perception, interaction, face/body tracking, activity recognition, robotics and sensors, among others. The network's website lists technology domains including Computer Vision, Machine/Deep Learning, Graphics/Neural Rendering, Robotics, Autonomous Systems, Extended Reality/Web 4.0, Safety/AI-Supply Chain, Human Factors, and Energy-Efficient AI. It also publishes news on topics such as AI for low-carbon and net-zero systems, gender equality in AI and innovation, and ESG and responsible innovation.
History
GraphicsVision.AI was constituted in 2010. At that time, the founding members DFKI, Vicomtech, CCG, GraphiTech and Mivtech envisioned the network as very much focused on Computer Graphics and other domains related to this basic technological research field. As such, the name "GraphicsMedia.net" was chosen for the company. In the course of time, GraphiTech left the network (the institute was closed), but other institutes joined: HPI, CEA-LIST, HHI and CGAII. Plus, in 2019, the Business Cluster within the network was established. In early 2019, the members started a process for a rebranding of the network. As AI and Machine Vision and Learning constitute domains in which all members are very active, the company was rebaptised to "GraphicsVision.AI".
