GreenShield

GreenShield describes itself as Canada's only national non-profit health care and insurance organization, founded in 1957 as a non-profit organization. It states it was the first organization in Canada to operate as a payer-provider, offering insurance, administering benefits, and paying claims as a payer while offering health services such as mental health, pharmacy, and medical services as a provider. Its founder, William Wilkinson, created what it describes as North America's first prepaid drug plan. He believed all Canadians deserved proper access to prescription medication, and the result was the creation of North America's first prepaid drug plan. In 1957, GreenShield was established as a non-profit organization, reinvesting its earnings to support Better Health for All Canadians. GreenShield states it is the first organization in Canada to operate as a payer-provider, integrating insurance, benefits administration, and claims payment with health services such as mental health, pharmacy, and medical services.
