Overview

Groupe Lépine is a French family company that traces its origins to the Maison Lépine created in 1714 by Philippe Martin de Lespinaz. Based in Genay near Lyon, it employs more than 500 people across 7 operational sites and distributes its products in more than 30 countries through 9 commercial subsidiaries and several partners. The company designs and manufactures orthopedic implants and surgical instrumentation, including hip and knee prostheses, upper limb products, osteosynthesis and biomaterials, and it markets the VISIOFIX™ ready-to-operate kit.

History

Philippe Martin de Lespinaz (1692-1754) fled the wars of religion in Switzerland and created the Maison Lépine in 1714, first settling between Saône and Rhône near the Pont du Change as a remover. His son Gaspard became a master cutler, an activity that lasted until 1860, when the company began to develop a surgical instrument business. In 1860 the first catalog of surgical instruments of Maison Lépine appeared, containing dissection and autopsy instruments, professional kits, specialized instruments for organs (eyes, ears, mouth, etc.) and medical devices. In 1882 Maison Lépine accompanied the birth and evolution of medical art in Lyon, developing and marketing custom-made instrumentation and techniques at the request of surgeons. Between 1900 and 1950 traditional manufacturing was mechanized and industrialized, and Maison Lépine became the official supplier of the Rockefeller Medical School in Lyon. In 1988 Patrick Pfaifer acquired the 14th generation Maison Lépine, which became Groupe Lépine in 1991. As part of CE marking, the company designed and put on the market its first hip femoral stem in 1994. In 2002 it acquired the Sanortho plant in Orthez, where more than 25,000 stems are forged per year. Today Groupe Lépine is a French family company based in Genay near Lyon with more than 500 employees across 7 operational sites, distributing products in more than 30 countries through 9 commercial subsidiaries and several partners.
