Overview
Groupe Gruau is a French family-owned coachbuilder (constructeur carrossier) specializing in bodywork on commercial vehicles. According to its official website, the group has 137 years of history and describes itself as a European multi-specialist leader in commercial vehicle bodywork, organized around two main poles: Urban Mobilities and Sanitary Vehicles. Its product range covers construction and environment, health and funeral, security and intervention, goods transport, passenger transport, and specific vehicles.
History
The historical reference for the company's creation is the establishment of René Le Godais in Laval in 1889. René Le Godais (1839-1911), from a family of lumberjacks turned cartwrights from 1830, left the family business based in Ernée (53) and settled in Laval with a few companions, creating his own cart-making business. More than 10,000 carts came out of the Le Godais workshops. His son, René Le Godais Junior (1881-1925), continued the family business and welcomed many companions and apprentices, including a certain Marius Gruau, himself from a line of cartwrights. Today, Groupe Gruau describes itself as a family group with 137 years of history, organized around two main poles: Urban Mobilities and Sanitary Vehicles.
