History
Ugo Mursia was born on 8 November 1916 in Carini (Palermo). After the war his family moved to Rome and later to Padua, where he graduated in law and political science. A publicist, from 1941 he contributed art criticism articles to the magazine «Emporium» and to the weeklies «Il Bo'» and «Le Tre Venezie». A fellow student of Ruggero Zangrandi, he took part in the Resistance in the ranks of Giustizia e Libertà. In Padua, at the end of the war, Mursia began working in publishing, first as a book agent, then as publisher of some secondary school texts under the A.P.E. (Azienda Padana Editrice) imprint, established in 1947 in Milan. In 1951 he acquired Alberto Corticelli, a historic children's publishing brand; in 1955 he merged the two companies and created Ugo Mursia Editore. Children's literature would be another of his publishing passions. Fiorenza Mursia, daughter of the founder, has been president and managing director since 1990.
