Overview
G.U.D. Holdings Limited is an Australian public company that began in 1938 when GUD was founded by industry pioneers Harry Sharples, Arthur Harford, and Bill Ryan. GUD Manufacturing Pty Ltd was formed in 1940, initially producing chemicals such as Dr. Lube and Chem-weld, and the first FRAM filters were assembled in Australia by GUD Manufacturing in 1942. GUD Holdings was formally registered in 1958 and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 1959. During the 1990s and 2000s the company acquired iconic Australian brands to create a diversified portfolio, and in recent years it refocused on its automotive roots, divesting its final non-automotive business in late 2023. In June 2024 the company changed its name to Amotiv, described as a creative play on the word 'Automotive', and today operates as a pure-play automotive company with over 1,900 team members, 40 global locations, 16 manufacturing sites, and 3 Divisions, offering over 50 market-leading brands.
History
G.U.D. Holdings Limited's story began in 1938 when GUD was founded by industry pioneers Harry Sharples, Arthur Harford, and Bill Ryan, who came together to form an informal alliance. In 1940, GUD Manufacturing Pty Ltd was formed, initially producing chemicals such as Dr. Lube and Chem-weld (still sold today under the Goss brand). The first FRAM filters were assembled in Australia by GUD Manufacturing in 1942, and the iconic RYCO filter brand was launched, distributed via W.L. Ryan. GUD Holdings was formally registered in 1958, and the company went public by listing on the Australian Securities Exchange in 1959. In 1991 it acquired Lock Focus from Lowe & Fletcher, and in 1995 and 1996 it acquired Davey Pumps and Sunbeam-Victa & Wesfil respectively. In 2003 GUD acquired Spa Quip and Monarch (both joining the Davey Group) in 2006, followed by Dexion Storage Systems in 2009 and Brown & Watson International (home to brands such as Narva and Projecta) in 2015. During the 1990s and 2000s, Amotiv (then G.U.D. Holdings Limited) acquired iconic Australian brands to create a diversified portfolio of businesses. In recent years, the Group refocused the portfolio on its roots in automotive, and in late 2023 it divested the final non-automotive business to create the largest automotive parts 'pure-play' in Australia and New Zealand. In June 2024 the company changed its name to Amotiv, a creative play on the word 'Automotive', marking its evolution back to a dedicated automotive pure play group. Today, Amotiv Limited stands as a pure-play automotive company, boasting over 1,900 team members, 40 global locations, 16 manufacturing sites, and 3 Divisions, offering over 50 market-leading brands.
